Popera is based on a wooden display type specimen produced by the Nebiolo Company of Turin, originally shown in an undated example. This new digital version is a striking plate serif typeface, highly recognizable by its reverse contrast (historically called "Italian"), with the horizontal strokes and the serifs being decidedly thicker than the vertical ones. The typeface design combines wide, boxy shapes with hard, heavy serifs with round, soft joints. Popera is more than a western or circus typeface, Popera is a truly Italian slab serif!
