elongated English
designed by Aldo Novarese

Towards the end of the 19th century, the notable increase in commercial and advertising printing - compared to that of books - required letters with extreme contrast to attract attention, such as the neoclassical Norman blackest style. Newspapers, on the other hand, for obvious reasons of space, required narrow or very narrow characters for subheadings: thus the so-called narrow and elongated Bodonian characters (Elongated characters) proliferated. From this need was born the Elongated English: originally published as an alphabet with uppercase and lowercase letters around the beginning of the 1900s, it was later modified into a pure uppercase alphabet and remained so until its disappearance from the Nebiolo catalogue around 1960. R41 Elongated English is an extremely elegant font alphabet, ideal for titles and subtitles that require immediate attention with extreme refinement.
